Portuguese Desserts and Pastries | 002. Arroz Doce (Portuguese Sweet Rice)
Arroz Doce is a traditional Portuguese dessert that primes for its simplicity and sweetness. It’s an absolute must-have for the Holidays, but also for children’s birthdays and folksy parties.
The perfect Arroz Doce should embody the sweetness of the milk and eggs and the sour touch of the lemon within the rice; and must be of a rich yellow colour. Cinnamon is used to sprinkle the rice and to create patterns, drawings and even words, giving the dessert a personal touch.
You can easily find Arroz Doce at basically any restaurant and cafeteria in Portugal, but mind you, if it is not of a warm and tasty yellow, it’s not worth eating.
